William Shakespeare Biography

This William Shakespeare Biography site gives information on his history as well as many of his works. He is considered to be the best English writer of all time. Some say he is the best writer period. Shakespeare wrote stories about tragedies, histories, comedies, plays, and poems.

Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford on the banks of the Avon River. The date of his actual birth isn't known, but it is listed as April 26, 1564, which is the day he was baptised. It is widely speculated that his date of birth is April 23, because you were typically baptised a few days after birth. The exact date of his death isn't known either but it is listed as April 23, 1616.

William was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. They had 8 children with William being the third. There were 4 boys and 4 girls in his family. There are not many details of his life as a young child. His parents had status in the community. His dad was a glover and alderman while his mother was an heiress. Because of his dads status, it is believed that William Shakespeare didn't have to pay to go to grammar school in Stratford. However, there are no records to show that he even went to school there.

Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway on November 28, 1582. She was pregnant at the time and had their first child, Susanna around May 26,1583. They later had twins named Judith and Hamnet.

Sometime in the next seven years, Shakespeare moved to London. Upon moving to London, that's when he begin to come into his own as an actor and playwright. Shakespeare made most of his money when he became part owner of the Globe Theatre. However, his works are why he will be remembered.
